Doctor Who Rewatch: 1x03 'The Unquiet Dead' aka ZOMBIES!

-Okay, we’re not starting with the Doctor and Rose this episode … who do we have here?

-WE HAVE ZOMBIES! VICTORIAN ZOMBIES!!!

-I had to laugh when Sneed comes back into the room. He looks more like he’s confronting a misbehaving child, not a walking, strangling corpse.

-Hi Doctor! Hi Rose! You know, I think I’d be bit nervous of travelling in a time machine that seems to be on the verge of exploding half the time.

-“The stiffs are getting lively again!” I don’t want to laugh but I can’t help it.

-“For shame, Mr Sneed!” It’s a lovely introduction to Gwyneth. She’s a servant, doing menial work, but she’s willing to speak up to her master when she thinks she should.

-I love the scene in the Tardis. The two of them laughing on the floor, then Rose getting more serious. I love what she says about a day only happening once then it’s gone. One of the reasons I love history.

-“No wonder you never stay still.”
  “Not a bad life.”
  “Better with two.”
Say it with me, awww.

-Barbarella. *snerk* Rose seems unfazed by the thought of wandering around the Tardis. I wonder if she’s had a tour?

-Mr Sneed still making me laugh but ooh, the Sight! Bit unnerving.

-Charles Dickens! I felt rather sorry for the stage manager or whoever he was. He did get dumped on, didn’t he?

-“You look beautiful!” It’s all very cute. I like the Doctor’s little smile as he looks down at the Tardis again. “I think that was a compliment.” Oh yeah. It was.

-“I changed my jumper!” Does the Doctor ever wear period appropriate clothing? I’m trying to recall. Since he’s not actually trying to look like a navvy this time.

-First footsteps in the snow. I love her joy in the whole thing. But isn’t she freezing?

-I see the Doctor has money this time; guess he doesn’t want to be caught short if they want chips again. *g*

-Poor, maligned Cardiff. Rose’s expression is hilarious.

-Phantasmagoria! I love that word.

-Somehow, Rose's clothes don't really match the other women in the audience ...

-Gwyneth can think on her feet, she might have managed to get rid of anyone but Rose.

-Doctor as fanboy! Good for Charles being ready to go to the rescue – once he actually knew what was going on and why the Doctor had commandeered his coach.

-Okay, waking up in a strange place, with a thumping headache, I think I might have looked around a bit sooner. You know, in case someone wanted to add to the headache.

-I imagine Gwyneth has quite the headache at this point.

-“I think this is my dance.” Were they trying to win shippers in this ep?

-Attagirl Rose! Give Sneed hell! I’m pretty sure she’s threatening him with a poker.

-Dickens is having a nice personal crisis there. Conan Doyle might have been more immediately appreciative.

-The conversation between Rose and Gwyneth is so well done. You see that they have things in common but their attitudes are so different.

-It really is eerie when Gwyneth starts ‘seeing’ Rose. The Big Bad Wolf!

-Anyone else immediately suspicious of the Gelth? I found it bizarre how easily the Doctor accepted their story and proposed solution. Time War guilt, yeah, but … I agreed with Rose that it was a bad idea but I think she needed to go a bit beyond, “This seems wrong.” Not a pleasant argument.

-Rose tries to look out for Gwyneth. I like that but Gwyneth was right in saying it was her decision to make and that Rose was being patronising. I could understand Rose’s viewpoint though.

-Okay, creepy morgue. Shame it’s not a gazebo. At least the Doctor has a further plan for the Gelth, he’s not just planning to let reanimated corpses wander around Cardiff.

-“I think it’s gone a little bit wrong.” Gee, you think? Those teeth were nasty.

-Rose realising she could die before she’s even born; the Doctor’s face.

-“In Cardiff!” Poor Cardiff.

-Yay, hero Dickens!

-Handholding! Who doesn’t love this scene? “I’m so glad I met you.”

-“I hope that this theory will be validated soon, if not immediately.” Heee.

-Oh Gwyneth. She was so brave. And I hurt for her that she knew she was betrayed by what she’d always thought of as angels.

-The look of incredulous betrayal on Rose’s face before the Doctor explained what had happened to Gwyneth. Ouch.

-“She saved the world. A servant girl. And no one will ever know.” You will.

-I was really quite fond of Charles by the end. The whole goodbye scene makes me smile … until we realise the date. At least he’s going to be alive for the rest of his life.

-Merry Christmas, Charlie!
