Okay, there were women in lovely dresses and some ... interesting hats at the wedding but there were a few that made me go WTF?
I think I actually said that out loud when I saw Tara Palmer-Tomkinson's outfit (page 1, picture 3) and as for the Princesses of York (page 5) ... what were they thinking?! And Beatrice, honey, you really need to lighten up on the eyeliner. 'Panda-eyes' would be putting it mildly.
I was however greatly entertained to learn that bookies were taking bets on the colour of the Queen's hat.
Reading the news, it's mostly depressing but how about this?
Black swan eggs rescued from the floods
She rescued eggs. And now her sister can't stop telling her friends all about these fluffy little darlings!
(I know swans can be vicious when they grow up. Right now they're pretty cute.)
We had a big storm this evening with accompanying blackout. After the storm was over but before we regained power, one of our neighbours from across the road came to check if the blackout was the whole street or not. Said neighbour (eighteen-year-old girl) and I commiserated on our lack of internet access. During our conversation the words 'fan fiction' were uttered. And she knew what I was talking about! She reads fanfic! Not in the same fandoms I do but hey, she knew what the hell I was talking about. And where does she read this fan fiction?
Mostly at fanfiction.net.
Uh ... had she heard of Livejournal? Dreamwidth? AO3? delicious?
Nope, no, no and nope.
Remembering my own days of finding fic through ff.net, I offered suggestions for finding fic in other locations and, after further questions, explaining how these various sites work. She seemed very interested and enthusiastic.
Knowing what I can find through these sites and remembering what I used to have to dredge through elsewhere ... I hope she enjoys what she finds!
P.S. When the power came back on, Mum and I also had to rectify neighbour's tragic lack of exposure to LOLcats. That was just sad.
