Rainbows and dalmatians

I tried rainbow chard for the first time last month and I was amazed by the colours! (Also wondered why those articles on trying to get kids to like vegetables never mention the neon colors of rainbow chard.) I'd had silverbeet before so the taste of the leaves was familiar and I like the slight crunch of the stems in this recipe.

Pasta with Ruby Chard and Cranberries

I used a mix of rainbow chard and regular silverbeet and, as always, reduced the pasta to 50g per person. Yum. We don't get fresh cranberries here (or if we do, they're hideously expensive) but I do like the dried ones. I hadn't thought to use them in a savoury dish.

I gave up on trying to find Kerrang at the newsagents (a couple of places sell it but apparently have no idea as to when they receive it or how far behind the issues are) and just ordered a copy from eBay. Also a copy of The Hush Sound's Goodbye Blues! I was listening to Honey tonight (have you seen [personal profile] melusina's lovely Greta picspam?) and Mum asked who the singer was, said she liked the sound. Hopefully another album we can listen to without one of us wincing!

Poor wobbly old dalmatian is getting ever more wobbly. Then she scarfs her dinner and tears around the garden playing ball. And falling over but still. She's always been strange.

I love Goodbye Blues! I think you'll really enjoy it. . .

(The chard recipe sounds delish!)

You can buy the baby chard in bags for use in salads, but that's the only way I've ever seen it.

Yup, often in those mixed bags with baby spinach and garden rocket. The red stems make them very decorative.

I've never seen those in salads here. Food differences across the world are fascinating.
