PUPPIES!!!
Aug. 4th, 2011 11:43 pmOuting! I had to go to the bank today, just at our little local mall, but since it was Thursday and Mum was talking about looking for some new walking shoes, I suggested we go look at our nearest shopping centre - where we hadn't been since their Borders store closed. And that was a few months ago! So we went over there, had a bit of a wander, checked out what was replacing Borders (answer: discount rugs place. Huh?)
We looked at a couple of shoe places for Mum but we passed a store that was having a closing-down sale and I spotted some flat, closed-toe shoes for $15. Basically sandshoes (which ten years ago, I wouldn't have touched with a bargepole) but in dark red, dark purple and black. The thought of having some flat shoes that aren't sandals or boots? Colourful flat shoes? Well, I tried them on. And the Size 5 fitted me perfectly! And it was available in red and purple! So I bought both. I doubt they'll last very long but for $15 a pair, I really don't care. Also, I hate shoe shopping so when I find shoes that fit, I buy them.
We also found part of the old Borders space was hosting a discount book/DVD/CD/gfitware place and I found an Ilona Andrews book I wanted for $1, plus a history of the sinking of the whaleship Essex and a history of hot-air ballooning. Also, a flexible chopping board (yes, kitchen gadgets were there as well *confused*) and I've been wanting to replace my old one, so that was good!
We shared a blueberry muffin while I had tea and Mum had a cappuccino ... and we were both rather disconcerted to find a happy face on the bottom of our cups. A bit odd to see bits of black appear as you're draining your cup but what really threw me was that the happy face had nostrils. I don't know why that threw me! But it did. Somehow, I felt that just the eyes and smile would have been a bit less odd ...
But to the most important part of the afternoon ... PUPPIES!!! There's a small RSPCA adoption outlet at the centre with an attached vet clinic. We went in and saw one sleeping cat, a few giant bunnies, two very loud and excitable German Shepherd pups, a very cute red cattle dog x puppy, and a blue cattle dog x kelpie puppy going to the vet (he was darling and very happy to talk us and lick our hands.) There was also a huge adult greyhound male in the large enclosure. He was let out to have pats from several people and he was as gentle and sooky as the other greyhounds I've met. He had lovely silky ears and big dark eyes which no doubt do woeful very well.
We also stopped at the pet shop and saw a litter of Staffy x puppies. One of them was out, meeting a prospective owner and she just wanted to wriggle and lick and say hello to everyone!
And when we arrived home, our dogs were all, YOU'RE LATE, WHERE'S OUR DINNER, OMG YOU'VE BEEN CHEATING ON US WITH OTHER DOGS, HAVEN'T YOU.
And then we fed them and they forgave us.
