Rude awakenings and Kerrang!

How my day started: Take 1
I jerked awake to a loud crash-thump close to my bed. The cat, pissed off with being shut inside, attempted to ... go through the curtain and blinds to the windowsill? Under them? Not quite sure but it didn't work, hence the noise.
Mum retrieved him from my room and I fell asleep again.
How my day started: Take 2
Having had my first cup of tea, I was going to pour a glass of vegetable juice. Took the bottle out of the fridge, started to shake it, whoops, the lid wasn't on properly! There's a wake-up call. On my cream dressing gown, no less.
Fortunately, I was holding the bottle with a finger on the lid, so I was spattered (across my face, my glasses, my dressing gown) as was the floor but it wasn't the drenching it could have been.
(I wasn't sure which of us had been the last to close the bottle but when I told Mum of the incident, she went, 'Sorry! That must have been me.' She also said that as she was carrying her glass of juice out of the kitchen, she managed to slop a good bit of it on the floor. Apparently the juice wants to be free today.)
How my day started: Take 3
The copy of Kerrang I ordered from eBay arrived in perfect condition! I grinned happily at the article and this evening, Mum asked if it was what I'd wanted and I proceeded to babble at her about why they are awesome and how Frank Iero has not aged and Gerard seems to be ageing in reverse and she looked at the pictures, agreed with me and listened patiently until I realised that I was babbling and shut up.
I love my mother. She is not remotely fannish but she is willing to indulge me in it. And she does like Adam Lambert.
The rest of the day:
Has been rather less exciting. Bit of writing, just scribbles really, I couldn't settle into it, but if this damn headache goes away rather than building, I want to type up a bit or two to post.
Also, used the last of the cavolo nero in an excellent recipe:
One Pot Kale and Quinoa Pilaf
This is very nice and the leftovers are delicious cold or warmed up. I've made it with just the white quinoa before but I didn't have it this time. Instead, I used an 'Andean Grain' mix (white, red and black quinoa with amaranth) that I bought at the market a few months ago. I switched the goat cheese for 1/2 cup finely grated parmesan and since I don't have any toasted walnut oil (I've never even seen it) I used olive oil and added a heaped tablespoon of toasted chopped walnuts with the pine nuts. Also, I've never seen a Meyer lemon, I just use a regular one.
... and here I was thinking I'd hardly changed the recipe at all.
