Trying to create some order

venetia_sassyPossibly I've lost my mind but I've signed up for pikasafire's Nanowrimo in the hopes of getting somewhere with my Bandom fusion (so far about eighteen Bandom people have shown up in speaking parts.) And since talking to myself about my writing only gets me so far, I'm going to babble here as well. I'll probably lock these posts or put them on a filter (if I figure out how to do that) so those who aren't keen on random shapeshifter & psychic ramblings can avoid them.
The fusion is with Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series (very basic info here.) It's pre-canon, starting about 15-20 years before. Currently I have about 15-20 years of outlines. *eyeroll* I was waiting to read the latest book Kiss of Snow before figuring out how things ended up because the book was supposed to wrap up one story arc and set up another. Well, there was plenty of set up but damned if I know what was resolved. I'm now a little confused about the endgame.
I'm thinking of a series of connected fics since various characters keep showing up and wanting their own stories but the main arc would follow Gerard (a foreseer and empath), Mikey (a psychometric), Frank (a telekinetic) and Greta (a telepath), who drop out of the PsyNet as children/teenagers and go into hiding, living as humans. Along the way, Frank meets a tiger changeling named Jamia and is very surprised to find out he's her mate. Greta and Mikey are together when they meet a human named Ray who becomes a close friend and later their partner. Gerard eventually falls for a human named Lindsey who unfortunately has a deep loathing for the Psy.
They also meet a bear changeling named Bob who was kicked out his clan when he mated with macaw changeling Brian. A friend of Bob's is bobcat changeling Patrick who mates with a deeply traumatised man named Pete. What Bob doesn't know is that Pete is a Psy telepath who was traumatised by being experimented on.
Down in Vegas, where a coyote pack is in charge, Ryan is having a hard time with adolescence which only seems to be increasing the sharp thoughts he hears from others. But as far as he knows, his heritage is entirely human and any time he ventures near a Psy building, he has to hightail it in the opposite direction, he feels so nauseated. Changelings are easy to be around, he doesn't pick up anything from them - although he'd be sticking close to his owl changeling best friend Spencer anyway.
Brendon has always been eager to please and so sensitive to criticism. He doesn't realise that the way he feels what other people feel when they talk to him isn't usual and it hurts him more and more every day that he can't be what his family wants. Somehow the three of them meet up and Ryan is surprised to find that being around Brendon is soothing, Brendon is delighted to find people who like him, like being around him and Spencer just wants to protect the both of them. Eventually they meet Jon, a member of the Forgotten - descendants of those Psy who dropped out of the PsyNet a hundred year earlier, rather than condition emotions out of their children as was being demanded. Jon is a Power Sensitive and he recognises Ryan's telepathy and Brendon's empathy as soon as he meets them and he's able to teach them how to shield.
They form a band, go on the road, eventually they have a moose changeling bodyguard named Zack, and they meet cobra changeling Gabe and his human boyfriend William.
Oh and over in LA, fox changeling Kris is wondering how he managed to mate with a beautiful, blue-eyed Psy.
How these various people meet, cross paths, influence each other - I need a timeline!

Date: 2012-01-12 05:34 am (UTC)Are you going to use a timeline that fits as close to canon timelines as possible given the changes to make the plot move? Like do Gerard, Mikey, Frank, and Greta meet the Panic crew through Pete and Patrick after they meet Bob?
Why do the main four drop out of the PsyNet and how do they have the skills to do that go into hiding without getting caught?
Does Frank know Jamia from before? I really like the Mikey/Greta pairing. It's unusual and something that I think will provide an interesting dynamic. I really like that the changelings are not all the "usual" animals for those bandom people. Macaw!Brian is making me grin.
Does the experimentation Pete endured factor into the present day plot of your world in terms of the experimentors still being around? Looking for Pete? Doing other experiements? Looking for other non-humans to experiemnt on? Do Pete and/or Patrick know Gabe and/or William? Is the age difference between Pete and Patrick still the same as canon?

I hadn't thought about it that way but it gives me an idea. The Four eventually end up in NJ, where they meet Ray and Jamia but I wasn't sure how they'd meet the others. However, Ray has a music store and repairs instruments (or at least guitars) and Mikey ends up working for him. Possibly the music store is a way for them to meet the others. Or Ray knows Bob since Bob tours and Ray plays local clubs sometimes, eventually he'd introduce Bob to his new friends ...
Pete is definitely not capable of running a business or traveling for some time and Patrick can't leave him to go on the road any more so I think Patrick might wind up in production. And he knows Bob of old, thus Brian as well and I was thinking that Brian might be the one to manage Panic in the verse since there won't be an MCR.
And Brian could bring these guys to Patrick instead of to Maryland and they meet Pete, and Jon and Ryan know he's a telepath which freaks Pete and Patrick out completely - but then maybe they could help Pete with his shielding problems. *is thoughtful* I was trying to work out how to do that without bringing in too many OCs or turning it into a crossover.
