venetia_sassy: (101 Dalmatians // happy puppies!)
There is a lovely, leggy greyhound sprawled out in her bed a few feet away. She has a soft, glossy coat and silky ears and she loves pats and cuddles. I've gone soppy, Mum's won over, the Boyo is ... considering things and the cat is pissed.

When she arrived, she was wagging her tail so hard against the inside of the van, the Boyo could hear it from inside and was very intrigued! He got a bit stroppy on introductions though (they were both muzzled, to be safe); not really aggressive but a bit territorial and protective of Mum. The grey got a bit frightened by that and she's regarding him very cautiously now. He's starting to settle down though (we think.) After a walk around the garden (and a sudden attempt to paddle in one of the birdbaths which resulted in the upset of the birdbath, fright of the dog and the soaking of my clothes), we introduced her to the cat with him on his lead. OMG, the expression. She wasn't really interested but he was filthy. He is so not impressed. And the dirty looks continued, with a bit of hissing. But if he ignores her the way he does the Boyo, that's just fine!

S, from the rehoming program, was pretty happy with things, just cautioning us about letting the dogs loose together outside at first in case the Boyo scares the grey and she tries to run or jump the fence. We have a gigantic bag of food for the foster period plus a pretty collar, a lead and a muzzle which is really lightweight and easy to put on. We'll keep that on when the cat's around for the first couple of weeks, just to be safe.

I meant to take some photos but I didn't manage any today! After S left, the grey and I stayed in my study for several hours for cuddles and a nap. Poor dog was a bit rattled by everything. She's really had a very unsettling month or so. She's gone from spending her life in racing kennels, to moving to the rehoming kennels, to the prison, to the vet for desexing, back to the prison, a long drive today to the rehoming centre then out here - only to hissed at by a pissed off cat and snarled at by a protective cattle dog! We went out again late afternoon and she explored the garden (on the lead at first, then off) although she kept a wary eye on the Boyo. Then it was back to the study and her bed, which she clearly likes. When it was time to go out after dinner she did not want to move. She is very sweet and gentle and generally wants to please - but there is clearly a stubborn streak there! It took about ten minutes and a variety of methods to get her out of the bed, then out the back door!

I have to decide what to call her on here. It's funny, Mum and I had a couple of names picked out that sound a bit like her current name but we were leaning towards one (Mum liked it more) but when we met the grey, Mum said, oh no, the other name! And she's right. (We're not calling her by her kennel name because a) we don't call our dogs by human names and b) it's the name of one of my friends. One of the reasons for a!)

I'll try to take some photos tomorrow. She has such cute ears and a lovely waggy tail!
