A bit from today's writing. Frank is probably 16-18, Gerard 20-22. Basic 'verse information here.
Frank looked at Gerard, looked at the pale face, the red-rimmed eyes, the awkward body and remembered how young Gerard really was.
Frank rested his forehead against Gerard's and spoke directly into his mind.
You saved us, Gee. You saved Greta, you saved Mikey, you saved me, you saved yourself. You were just a kid and you saved us.
Gerard tried to shake his head, disagreement in his thoughts. Elena set things up -
And you made it happen. She laid the foundation but you saved us. And Frank pushed his memories forward, memories of a small boy, alone and terrified of what his own mind might do; the first moments of freedom, the rush of relief and tears and laughter as he linked minds with Gerard, Mikey and Greta; the months in the desert as they all struggled for control, Gerard shoving emotions at them over and over until they were safe; Greta's face losing it's fearfulness, relaxing into laughter; Mikey as he grew, no longer holding himself as though braced for a blow; Frank and Gerard laughing and throwing paint at each other in a fight that a Tk would always win - although Gerard gave it a good shot.
You saved us, Gee. You're not all-powerful, you're not the God the humans talk about. You can't save everyone. But we know you'll keep trying because that's who you are. But let us hold you when it doesn't work. Don't shut us out.
Gerard's body was still and unyielding against his own but Frank just wrapped his arms around him and waited, letting Gerard feel his pride and love - and his own grief.
Finally, finally, Gerard collapsed forward, head on Frank's shoulder. And cried.
