Almost everything done in readiness to leave tomorrow ... except the actual packing.

It isn't as bad as it sounds. I have everything set out, ready to be packed - we just don't bring the suitcase in until the last moment, sparing the dogs (and ourselves!) all the anxiousness the sight of a suitcase tends to provoke.

But the dogs will be at least a little happy with arrangements; Pip, one of their favourite people is going to house-sit. Or puppy-sit. Poor old Lady Muck is really too old and confused for a kennel, especially since it's been years since she's been to one.

Our first iris bloomed today - a yellow one. I was wondering if it would ever show its petals! And the jacaranda is showing a few little flowers, too.

Lancecat never seems to realise what suitcases mean. Or maybe he just doesn't care. He always stays at my mother's when I'm away and he seems to like it well enough. I'm sure he would prefer to stay at home with someone looking after him if he were allowed to chose but since my mother smokes that's just not an option.

Irises are beautiful and jacarandas are just lovely. It's one of those trees I would love to see in person some day. They look just breathtaking in photos.

Quite understand about the smoking! Our cat doesn't seem to care about suitcases either. He goes to stay at a local cattery and we're told he was very happy and cuddly while he was there. But he seemed pleased to be home again.

We saw some lovely iris while were away, too. And jacarandas ... Sydney in November is a fabulous place for them. I remember flying in once, looking down and seeing all these splashes of bright purple amongst the houses. Gorgeous.
