Fandom Snowflake Challenge - Day 8

In your own space, talk about a talent (or talents) you have. Everyone's got something they're good at.

It's odd but I have trouble figuring out what I'm good at, largely because I have so little chance to compare what I can do with others so I don't know if I'm good, okay, terrible (alright, that's usually self-evident!) But if I can do something, I generally assume that anyone can do it. Sometimes I find out that this not true.

I do know I'm a good cook. I know I've improved in confidence and skill since I first took over the household cooking about five years ago. I like being competent at cooking because there's so little that I can do, physically and mentally, but I can do this most of the time. Tonight, I made coriander chicken with walnuts and apple coleslaw. Very good for a warm evening.

Speaking of being competent at something, I was very pleased to learn last year and year before last, that I am capable of putting (mostly Ikea) furniture together. I can set up TVs, sound systems, etc. Some things though, I will gladly leave to professionals (but I wouldn't mind having a little more knowledge of how computers work.)

You talk about cooking a lot and you make new things all the times. I would say that's clear evidence of you being a good cook. Not that I've tasted your efforts but in my experience people who're bad or indifferent cooks never talk about food.

Putting together Ikea furniture - or maybe more correctly, reading Ikea instructions :-) - is definitely a skill. And a very useful one too!

Ah-ha, yes, the Ikea instructions. There were a couple of moments ... but mostly I found them pretty clear. And after putting together 12 bookcases (of varying size), 2 CD towers, 1 chest of drawers and a wardrobe, they were looking quite familiar!

I have to agree, from how you talk about cooking I'd be very surprised if you weren't good at it.

Thank you. I do think I'm fairly good at it - I just forget that it's not something everyone can do, so I'm surprised when people seem impressed by it.

Oh, and not everyone can put furniture together. I've got the knack for it. Neither of my sisters do.
