I've been reading some wonderfully thoughtful and articulate reaction posts. This is not one of them.
That was really good. So much better than most blockbusters and superhero films.
To attempt some degree of coherence, we'll go by character:
Tony - okay, I said I might be in love with Tony Stark? Yeah. He's still arrogant, irritating, utterly sure of his own brilliance and yes, again, irritating and inclined to poke at people with pointy sticks. But he seemed comfortable in his own skin in a way he really didn't in the Iron Man films. He knows who he is, thank you very much Captain Rogers, and he's starting to be okay with it. And he cares. He cares about people and the world and it was lovely to see.
Pepper - I still don't seem them as along-term couple but their scenes together were great and Pepper's conversation with Phil was delightful. "Phil? No, his first name is Agent."
Coulson - oh, I'm glad I knew that was going to happen. But I don't believe it. No. It was too damn simple and Fury was being a manipulative bastard all over the place. (And I am amused by fandom's general reaction of Ignoring It Completely.)
Fury - hello, Manipulative Bastard. I loved that Agent Hill knew he'd orchestrated the scene with the cards. I was watching and going, that is just too perfect. No. And I was right! Hah! But how many movies would have just gone with the easy cliche?
Agent Hill - okay, we didn't get much sense of her personality but she was so wonderfully competent. And willing to call out Fury.
Natasha - Natasha rocked. Watching her talk to Loki, I was just Not Buying It and when she turned it back on him, I was gleeful. Also, I love her hair.
Bruce - I really liked him. And I felt sorry for him being dragged back into all the crap he'd been trying to stay out of. Also, Mark Ruffalo is gorgeous.
Clint - Oh, Clint. If you get another chance to shoot Loki in the eye, I think you should take it. What he did to you was So Not Okay. Also, you're kind of scary.
Steve - I'm still not loving movie!Steve. Fic!Steve is frequently awesome but ... he just wasn't getting my attention in the movie. He didn't ring true to me somehow. Also, I am really not finding Chris Evans attractive in this. Especially in the skin tight blue shirt.
Thor - Awwww. I wanted to hug him. And I may need help, I'm finding Chris Hemsworth attractive. Especially his arms. And his hair.
Loki - still a piece of shit. Again, I could almost feel sorry for him at the beginning because it seemed he was under duress - but does he take any of the multitude of opportunities to change his situation? Does he stop causing people pain? No, he just stomps his foot, sticks his tongue out at Thor and goes "Nyah, nyah, nyah, I'm going to be bad and you can't stop me!" (Question: how much Asgardian bondage porn was written after that last scene?)
There were lots of lovely explosions and special effects but combined with so many delightful character moments, I was practically wriggling with glee.
Tony & Bruce - how much do I adore these two?! They were such marvelous Science Bros. "Finally, someone who speaks English!"
Clint & Natasha - I'm not even sure if I ship them but I love them as best friends and partners and each other's Very Important Person and she took him down and waited for him to wake up and they made me so happy!
Tony & Steve - I was rolling my eyes at them a lot but they do come from such different perspectives (Tony doesn't trust anyone to give him orders and with good reason) that it was good to see them getting to the point of working together. Yes, I see why fandom ships them.
Was anyone else shaking their head during the Iron Man/Thor fight scene? Great visuals but really guys, not the time! Not everything is solved by testosterone!
*flaily hands* There were so many moments! How can I remember them all?! And I don't want to have to wait for the dvd ... I may have to see it again.
