My last comments on the royal wedding:

Kate's reception dress was gorgeous.

The official photo with all the flower girls and page boys is kind of hilarious.

That poor, tired, cranky-faced child is never going to live that down.

And, most importantly, A ROYAL WEDDING DALEK!!!

That is awesome!!!

Okay, there were women in lovely dresses and some ... interesting hats at the wedding but there were a few that made me go WTF?

I think I actually said that out loud when I saw Tara Palmer-Tomkinson's outfit (page 1, picture 3) and as for the Princesses of York (page 5) ... what were they thinking?! And Beatrice, honey, you really need to lighten up on the eyeliner. 'Panda-eyes' would be putting it mildly.

I was however greatly entertained to learn that bookies were taking bets on the colour of the Queen's hat.

I now know two things about Conway, Arkansas.

1) It is Kris Allen's hometown.
2) The town's initial efforts to build a public water supply in the early 1900s were decidedly hampered by the use of wooden pipes.

The latter fact brought to you by Flushed: How the Plumber Saved Civilization by W. Hodding Carter.

... I feel that in justice to Conway, I should learn at least one more thing about it.

Fandom collisions can be weird. Fandom and RL can be bizarre.

Spectaular time-lapse footage of the Milky Way, shot from the highest mountain in Spain, El Teide. (It's all beautiful but the Milky Way shots are incredible.)

Glorious.

I rather like this article form Cracked:

5 Things TV Writers Apparently Believe About Smart People

I like the occasional 'genius' or prodigy (not necessarily the same thing) - hi, Spencer Reid - but there are rather a lot of them on TV these days. Being smart does not mean that you have free rein to be nasty, law enforcement is not filled with geniuses and becoming an expert in any subject requires years and years of patient hard work. Becoming an expert in more than one field of study ...

It would be nice to see that depicted sometimes.

That's ... wow. They seem so fascinated by each other! Although, I have to admit, when I see the cat trying to grab them with a paw, I imagine it thinking, "Now how do I land this really big fish? YUM!"

When viewed from above, rainbows appear doughnut-shaped.

I did not know this. (Check out this link with ten spectacular kinds of rainbows.)

This random fact brought to you by Libra Odd Spots. Why Libra prints random facts on the adhesive paper of their sanitary pads is a question so far without an answer.

But I have learned something about rainbows!

Just been notified that my copy of Glam Nation Live has been shipped! When I saw it was available through Amazon, I pre-ordered it from there instead of the official website since the Acoustic Live took so damn long to get here. Here's hoping Amazon is a little more efficient even with Standard shipping. I also ordered MCR's I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love and a couple of books I hadn't been able to find elsewhere.

It will still be a couple of weeks. *will not watch mailbox. really*

I try not to succumb to cute animal videos too often. You think, just one little video, that's all. Next thing you know it's two hours later ... but this is adorable. I thought our cat did some good stretches but he's got nothin' on this kitty! Those liddle paws! (I can't believe I typed that.) I showed the video to Mum who promptly melted and asked for the video to be sent on to two other cat-loving friends. The other danger of YouTube ...

Reading the news, it's mostly depressing but how about this?

Black swan eggs rescued from the floods

She rescued eggs. And now her sister can't stop telling her friends all about these fluffy little darlings!

(I know swans can be vicious when they grow up. Right now they're pretty cute.)

We had a big storm this evening with accompanying blackout. After the storm was over but before we regained power, one of our neighbours from across the road came to check if the blackout was the whole street or not. Said neighbour (eighteen-year-old girl) and I commiserated on our lack of internet access. During our conversation the words 'fan fiction' were uttered. And she knew what I was talking about! She reads fanfic! Not in the same fandoms I do but hey, she knew what the hell I was talking about. And where does she read this fan fiction?

Mostly at fanfiction.net.

Uh ... had she heard of Livejournal? Dreamwidth? AO3? delicious?

Nope, no, no and nope.

Remembering my own days of finding fic through ff.net, I offered suggestions for finding fic in other locations and, after further questions, explaining how these various sites work. She seemed very interested and enthusiastic.

Knowing what I can find through these sites and remembering what I used to have to dredge through elsewhere ... I hope she enjoys what she finds!

P.S. When the power came back on, Mum and I also had to rectify neighbour's tragic lack of exposure to LOLcats. That was just sad.

1834 words today! We've shifted to the main setting and new people are turning up including one of the major supporting characters.

Made a kind of cottage pie for dinner, with cauliflower mash instead of potato. It tasted good but my stomach seems to be objecting a bit.

Okay, I need this here for easy reference because I can't stop myself from awww-ing whenever I watch it. That little face! And if you haven't been reading the various awesome fox and were!fox stories over at [community profile] kradamadness , I suggest you wander on over. *nods*

Having recovered from the concert, I was then hit by The Period From Hell. That being almost over, my sister-in-law is once more pulling some massive passive-aggresive bullshit against Mum, which has upset her considerably when she hasn't done anything wrong. My brother is apparently incapable of dealing with this. Also, there is a memorial service for Dad on Saturday, organised by his coastal patrol colleagues. Brother informed me of this yesterday and today informs me that he'll pick me up at 8:15. That's a.m.

Despite years of telling him that I need notice for activities, especially ones that will muck up my sleep cycle, he apparently has yet to get the memo. I also have no idea if ex-defacto-stepmother will be there and if so, will she be gunning for me. I won't have Pip with me this time and given current passive-aggressive bullshit, I don't know how much I can rely on brother and sister-in-law to watch my back. Lovely.

Just to add to the fun and games, I have developed a massive pimple on the bridge of my nose which won't come to a head. There was quite a bit a swelling around it yesterday but it subsided after a while and I thought it would improving by today. Wrong! I woke up and discovered that not only was a good part of my nose swollen, so was part of one eyelid. It's not a good look. And it's giving me a headache.

I will be posting about the concert now that I'm feeling better but not tonight. I have to try to get to sleep early. But I will leave you with cuteness. I need the smiles.

Baby lions learning to swim! Look at their adorable little faces!

Plus, a Pallas cat. A very determined Pallas cat.

Looking at the latest Woolworth's catalogue today, I spotted some puff pastry on sale.

Borg's Puff Pastry.

I found this disproportionately amusing.

"Resistance is futile ... we have PIE."
