venetia_sassy: (SH // Gladstone oh no! dead dog?)
The cattle dog went to the vet this morning for his annual check-up. He has a lump on his side that may or may not be cancerous. The biopsy was inconclusive so he's going back for a second one tomorrow. Fortunately, if it is cancer, the tumour should be easily removed in surgery. But I do not want to hear 'cancer' associated with The Boyo.

The cat is still having problems with a blocked tear duct several months after a fight where he got a scratch over his eye. Flushing the tear duct didn't work, further problems could develop, so a stent (for $500, please) needs to be put in.

The dalmatian is still going. This time last year, we didn't think she'd have much longer. For the last three months we've been wondering when the day would come. But she's still here, still eating, still as fussy and neurotic as ever. She still smiles at me sometimes. But now she has to go to the vet and be sedated to have her toenails cut. They're just way too long. No idea how she'll cope with that (last time it seemed to give her a new lease on life. But she's a lot wobblier now.)

Dinner tonight was Baby Swiss Chard With Bacon, Pine Nuts and Sultanas. Except I used crumbled Toulouse sausage instead of bacon and didn't soak sultanas in sherry (hello, alcohol intolerance.) Really good but really rich. I only used a 'bunch' of baby chard not the amount in the recipe but even so, I think a bit of couscous or maybe pumpkin mash to cut the richness might be a good idea.
