Good food day
Feb. 12th, 2012 11:51 pmDinner tonight was steamed sugarsnap peas with lemon and chives (peas were nice but the pods were too tough), grilled Toulouse sausage (very rich, very nice) and baked corn on the cob with basil and thyme (have never seen butter-flavoured cooking spray and wouldn't use it if I had. I brushed the corn with a bit of melted butter.) The corn was delicious! Now I know why people like corn on the cob. Mmm. Definitely eating that again.
Last night I made a half-batch of Orange-Scented Blueberry Muffins with Streusel Topping. Holy shit, yes! They're nice cold but they're fabulous right out of the oven! (My only caveat with the recipe is the quantity of streusel. I loaded the tops with it and still had half left over. For a minute I thought I'd mucked up and made the full quantity.) So much better than any commercially-made blueberry muffin. Even with the topping, they still weren't sickly-sweet.

I didn't sleep through today's thunderstorm. There was even some hail and a 30-second blackout. Given the way the wind was blowing, I am extremely surprised that that's all that happened. The poor backyard has gone from 'bog' to 'marsh' and had moments of 'lake' earlier.
