But there was pizza

venetia_sassyFriday was a very blurry day but better than Thursday. I figured I might just make it to Roz's husband's 80th birthday on Saturday (my social life, it is exciting) and I did. Still, maybe not the best idea. As usual.
Was tired when I woke up, tired when I got there and I really shouldn't have helped take stuff downstairs (stairs are tiring.) But it was a nice afternoon and I had freshly made wood-fired pizza. They recently built a wood-fired pizza oven and Roz's husband was so delighted with it, he said that that's what he wanted to do for his birthday - a make-your-own pizza party.
Roz made the dough and passata, we set out vast quantities of toppings, have what you like! To get things rolling, I had the first pizza, although I wasn't hugely hungry. Good thing too, because the birthday boy was still getting the hang of how far to slide the pizza in - mine caught on fire!
And then we just hung around, Mum and I being the last guests to leave (Mum had been providing back-up with washing plates, etc, so when the others were gone, she and Roz got to relax.) It's funny, I knew Mum had known and worked for them for at least twenty years, because I remember going to their house when I was quite young. But actually it's more than thirty years. Huh. My brother's never been quite sure what to make of Roz but I've always enjoyed having her in my life. (Mum says they are eccentric in a way only the English can manage. I'm all for it.)
I was almost asleep in my chair for the last hour or two and was quite happy not to move. Talked to Roz's daughter (who has the same evil laugh!) and I think my conversation was coherent ... eventually we went home, I lay on the sofa and read a bit then put the book down and had a nap. Woke up from that and went to bed. At some point past midnight I woke up. I'll try to go back to bed soon.
